1,000!

“I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more, just to be the man who walked 1,000 miles, and [planned to walk 1,189.1 more after that]”

Today was a big day. Crossed the 1,000 mile mark, got the hell out of Virginia, and out in one of my longest days at 22.2 miles, even with the roller coaster, 13.5 miles of relentless and rocky up and downs. Virginia threw the four seasons at me before letting me go, I saw scorching heat turn to thunderstorm. The sun came out, then another storm rolled in, this time featuring hail. The trail became a stream and everything is soaked. At a certain point you’re saturated and you can’t get any wetter, it’s kind of liberating. Now I am dry and exhausted, one day outside of Harpers Ferry and the unofficial half way point. I feel like a hero.

  1. Dearest Ryan….You ARE a hero! Great picture of yourself… you look so delighted. I can’t believe, after 1000 tough miles, your glasses remain intact !!! 🎈

  2. Congrats man! Almost halfway there and Summer solstice. YOU CAN DO THIS! And I can smell your stink from ATL.

Get Lasik when you get back to civilization- and before you head to the Pacific Coast Trail- lose the glasses- true liberation- just had it done last week!

Maine is just around the corner.

Go…go…go…one day at a time—-can’t believe I have been following you for 3 months!

  3. You look like a hero you remind me a lot of myself, who said that I can’t believe I would make a remark like that but yes it’s true anyway I think it might be.

Well you passed the halfway point and by gosh that itself is a wonderful experience and you should be proud I know I am just to know you, Keep up the good work and before you know it 2000 miles will rollaround and you will have become the champion everything else will be secondary and you will have this memory for the rest of your life great job Mark
